A small satellite called STARSHINE 2 is deployed from the payload bay of the Space Shuttle Endeavour on Sunday, December 16, 2001. The students, who helped polish the satellite’s 845 mirrors, used the information they collected to calculate the density of Earth’s upper atmosphere.
